Mission Statement

The Department of Private Law carries out research in all areas of civil law, focusing in particular on corporate law and labor law. Our Department maintains a balance between theoretical and applied research in legal studies. In addition to our major task, which is the literary treatment of scientific issues in Austrian, European, and international law. Members of the Department are involved as consultants in legislation matters, and in EU bodies.

Covering a wide range of scientific topics, the Institutes of the Department of Private Law coordinate interdisciplinary teaching- and research-projects, also taking into account the position of Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (WU). Being conscious of how important the exchange of experience for research and teaching is, the Department maintains close ties to other Austrian and foreign research institutions, resulting in cooperation in research (lectures, joint research-projects and publications series), as well as cooperation in teaching (guest lecturers and joint seminars).

The Institutes of our Department are particularly committed to the support and early career promotion of new researchers, integrating them in projects and in a considerable number of publications.
